Could it be?

Pictures of my room? It can’t be possible.

And yet it is! My room is far from finished, but I got some things tidied up the other night (at 9:30 – but I’d had coffee a little after 7 and was kind of running high… :P) and decided to photograph them!

The top of one bookshelf…

And some randomified close-ups.

Other bookshelf!

(Serendipitously, you can’t see any addresses on those letters, so I can actually post that picture.)

My reading nook (taken day after – obvious from the daylight outside).

And gee… what could this be?

Guess you’ll find out next time! 😉 Needless to say, it’s exciting news!

A Series of Lists

I think the worst part about making promises on a blog is that I can’t lie and pretend y’all misheard me and that I said I was going to post on Monday, not whatever silly day you thought I was going to… Because then you could just pull up the post before this one and call me out on being a loser.

Which I’d deserve. Because I am a loser.

But, anyway. Here’s a series of lists of excuses and things I’m into and maybe some resolutions and stuff.

1. I promised pictures of my room… But my camera that committed suicide last month (or the month before that) has not miraculously revived itself yet, so I don’t have any pictures.

2. Also, it’s a mess.

3. I could take pictures with my mom’s phone of my bathroom, since it’s nearly done, but I have to put up my Little Mermaid posters first and they’re still at Essie’s house in a box somewhere and I have to retrieve them and it’s raining and I can’t go fetch a box in the rain.

4. I decided to be studious and take a religion test that I was supposed to take a week ago last night instead of writing this post, except I was so afraid of doing poorly on it that I took an hour and a half and didn’t finish until ten o’clock because Tanith called me in the middle of it and it’s entirely her fault I swear.

5. I am very tired. I only had two cups of coffee today and they didn’t help.

6. It’s raining. That’s somehow relevant and blame-worthy.

7. The Packers won last night and I was too busy rejoicing to post. Yes.

Reasons Why October is Awesome

1. I turn 16 this month! Yikes!

2. I take the PSAT. Wait. No. That’s not good.

3. HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! *flails* I love Halloween. The one day of the entire year when it’s socially acceptable to wear a costume everywhere.

4. Chair auditions for my orchestra…? Erm…? Maybe that’s a good thing.

5. We have a dance this month! And every month! But this month especially! Yay!

6. I now live in the fun neighborhood, with Landon and Essie and Tanith! And the house is full of boxes and I have no idea which light switches do what and we have no food in the fridge. Ugh. So, basically, fun times.

7. The new Taylor Swift album is out this month! 😀

Things I’m Into This Month

1. NEWSIES. As is obvious. Kelli gave me the final shove and I’ve now got it on hold at the library! 🙂

2. I just discovered the Addams Family musical the other day… ‘One Normal Night’ is one of my favorite songs ever. “Were you folks right for the Mezzanine? Who’s to say.”

3. Rain! I don’t know if rain is something you can be “into”, but it’s been raining all week, and that’s not something that happens often here. When I get home from Algebra tutoring today, I might try and dig my rain boots out of whatever ridiculous box they’re in (I’ll never find them) and go stomp around in the puddles. Of course, the rain has a dark side: our dogs are tracking muddy footprints abso-blooming-lutely (if you get that reference, I love you) all over the kitchen.

4. Sweaters. It’s still too warm here for sweaters, but we’ve had a bit of breeze this week so I’ve been using that as an excuse to wear sweaters. I mean, come on! It’s October! Could we please stop having sweaty humid days and let the leaves fall already?

The Most Annoying Things About Moving

1. I don’t know what any of these light switches do. There are a hundred light switches in the breakfast nook I’m sitting in right now, and I know what exactly TWO of them do because my mom got so sick of flipping the wrong switch that she pulled out the label maker and labeled them.

2. My room is a mess and I don’t even have all my stuff in it. I haven’t gotten anything organized, so the entire room looks like something exploded.

3. I’m now behind in all my schoolwork. I sent in a chemistry test today that was due on Friday. *fumes*

4. Loads of things are still packed. I had to go bum a stamp and envelope off Landon and Stella to mail the aforementioned chemistry test (that hopefully I didn’t fail – this chapter was hard, I had to call in Frankie for moral support/tutoring).

5. We only have one TV and it’s in the loft, right next to my room. (I’m the only one upstairs.) Which means my dad watches TV late into the night right outside my door with the surround sound on. Because he can.

6. I wasn’t able to practice my cello all week, and now that I’ve picked it up again (chair auditions next Sunday! Agh!), my fingers are falling to pieces. Again. (By falling to pieces I mean that I get blisters on top of my calluses because my calluses are divas or something and refuse to help me out, and so those blisters break and peel and the skin on my fingertips look like they’re falling apart. Ugh. It’s gross, but whatcha gon’ do? Grin and bear it.)

I’m going to go now, get back to my schoolwork so Tanith and I can go puddle-stomping this evening (provided she finishes her school). (She won’t.) I will try my very hardest to get my room cleaned and organized so I can take some preliminary pictures and get them up tomorrow!

Thanks for reading! I love you all! Sorry about being late.

P.S. Resolutions

1. I have one resolution this month: to do a daily devotional. I have a little reading corner in my new room, so I’m going to try to curl up with the Bible readings for the day and a cup of coffee and my journal, and start my day off right. 🙂

In Which Hero’s Family Refutes Her Claim to the New York Monarchy

By telling her to shut up when she sings, “I’M THE KING OF NEW YORK!” a hundred times. (Newsies, you guys. Newsies.)

Anyway, I have a valid excuse for not posting. Here it is:

There are currently movers in my house, which means I can’t do a heel-click tapdance leap from a doorway shouting, “LET’S GET DRUNK!” “YEAH!” “NOT ON LIQUOR, FAME WORKS QUICKER – I’M THE KING OF NEW YORK!”

They also looks quite confused when I accusingly shout, “Hey! That’s my cigar!”

Seriously. Nobody knows anything around here.

I should have a post up tonight or tomorrow, with some shots of my room and some questions about the arrangement of furniture. *indecisive* *agh*

Have a great day! I’ll be back soon!

BEDA Day 25: The Point of No Relevance

Per usual, I have no ideas on what to blog about, so I’m just going to blog about a bunch of non-related stuff until I get to a reasonable length, at which point I’ll go watch TV or eat ice cream or whatever it is I do with my time. (*cough*WriteWheatley/Chellfanfic*cough*)

1. I am really excited about school starting on Monday. I’ve got my list of teachers and classes (I’m homeschooled, but I take online classes), and not only did I get the greatest religion teacher of all time for the second year in a row (words cannot describe my love for Samwise) but I also got classes with a couple of my friends, and my history teacher is apparently a massive Shakespeare fanatic – she directs a Shakespeare theater group in her town. SO. YEAH. AWESOME.

2. For some reason, I’m feeling the college itch. A number of my friends are off to college this year and bizarrely, I feel left behind. Don’t get me wrong, a ton of my friends are still at home, but it’s my junior year, and as college gets closer and closer for me, I just feel more and more desperate to get there — so of course it still feels like miles and miles away. I still have two years left, but seriously, time flies in my life.

3. I spent all day at my orchestra retreat today. (I also developed a massive headache, so it’s great that we were playing Beethoven’s 5th isn’t it? *sarcasm*) I’m probably the oldest kid there, but not by a lot, so it’s a step up from my last orchestra. Also, I’m apparently first chair? So I’m not sure how that happened, but it’s pretty cool.

4. In the new house I’m going to have my own bathroom. I am desperate for this shower curtain:

5. Landon and Essie are having their birthdays soon AND I HAVE PLANSSSSS. (Pinch pots, you guys. PINCH POTS.)

6. I found the music from Portal online for free AND LEGALLY because Valve (which is the greatest video game company in the entire world seriously Valve stop being so awesome) was like, “Yo, you want this music? We’ll stick it on the Portal website for free download. Oh, and have some ringtones too.” *throws music at you* Here’s a link, if you’re interested. (Of course you’re interested. Seriously.)

7. I watched about an hour of Hello, Dolly while I was babysitting the other night and I was soooo confuseddddd…

8. I’ve been quoting Space Core all day. My brother is annoyed.

9. Portal seems to be taking over my life. Scratch that, Portal IS taking over my life. And I don’t even care.

 10. I know you want it. First couple paragraphs from my fanfic. (No judgement.)

The guitar was too small for his oversized hands. He clumsily fingered the strings, trying to produce some sort of recognizable tune – heck, it didn’t even need to be recognizable. He would have been happy if it sounded like music at all.

Stupid guitar, not cooperating. He banged his head against the steel beams behind him. He felt the transmitter tower hum underneath him, and felt a twinge of sadness that he could no longer hear what she was saying.

“Sorry, Foxglove, love,” he said, wincing. “I didn’t mean to hit you, I’m just so blooming frustrated at the…” He slapped his hand against the strings, producing an angry twanging sound. “You see, it’s her birthday – y’know, Chell’s? I mean, her birthday, her first birthday with me with her – well, actually, no I was there in the facility on her birthday but of course it was in the facility so we weren’t, well, I couldn’t really celebrate it or do anything… I could’ve said happy birthday, I suppose, well, yeah, actually, that wouldn’t have been too hard, would it? Just sort of, y’know, slid up on my management rail, slid right up to her… ‘Oh, hello, well, see I sort of overheard her saying it was your birthday and… Oh, there isn’t any cake. You probably already knew that, actually, probably expecting that, but I thought you should know, there’s never really any cake… Sorry. But, er, happy birthday!’ Ah, no that’s rubbish.” He smacked the guitar again and sighed dejectedly. “I’m rubbish.”

Anyway, look at me still talking when there’s science to do… I’m gonna go… Do… Something unproductive. Yeah.

Have a wonderful evening! (And go play Portal. It’s fun over here, having no life and being obsessed with a video game and an impossible pairing. Seriously.)

BEDA Day 24: Lunch Break and a Countdown

Hello, dearies. I’m eating grapes.

It’s now exactly one month until a bunch of movers barge into our house and take all our stuff away and then shove it haphazardly into our new house, probably breaking 25% of it after which we will spend until Christmas trying to get everything out of boxes.

Anyway, figured I’d share some of my decorating ideas with you.

As I’ve said before, my initial plan was to decorate my entire new room to be steampunk, because I am JUST THAT AWESOME, but then I sort of realized that I have a lot of stuff that isn’t steampunk that I don’t want to just toss, so I came to a compromise. I’m going to have some steampunk elements for sure, but I’m also going to throw in vintage and quirky and nerdy things… It should be interesting.

For the walls, I’ve been thinking Autumn Moon – it’s a Valspar color, but on the virtual painter on their website makes it look a lot more yellow than it does gold, so I may rethink that.

I’m going to stain my wooden bed a dark glossy brown, and I have three quilts I’m considering. One is blue and white, and probably my favorite quilt that we have, another is green striped, and then the last one is rose and sage green striped.

On either side of my bed, I’m going to have my white bookshelves, set up in the same way I have them now. On the left, I’m going to put my typewriter out and above it I’m going to take those three quotes I mentioned a while back, print them out in typewriter font and frame them in mismatched 5×7 frames.

Helen Keller

On the right I’m going to set up my Great Aunt Madeline’s ancient sewing machine, and above that I’m going to frame (in mismatched frames again) three of my vintage-before-they-were-vintage sewing patterns… (For symmetry, you see.)

Then above my bed, I’m going to put up my Steampunk-y clock that I bought last year because it was so perfect. 😛

I want to take the door off the closet because for some reason it opens inwards, so I can’t actually use half the closet – no door, no problem. I’m going to hang a (hopefully) faded English flag as a curtain over the door so the trainwreck that is my closet it not visible all the time. 😉 Sort of this style type thing:

And then I’m going to hang my various assortment of artwork around… Both the paintings I’ve done and the posters I own, namely these two:

(I wish I’d bought the red version of this, since that’s the original, and it would go so much better, but unfortunately I have the purple because when I bought it I was obsessed with purple. I also wish I had the DFTBA version, but whatever. C’est la vie.)

And then of course I’m going to have books everywhere. I’m hoping to have a mantlepiece put up across from the bed for my various knickknacks and books that don’t fit on the shelves, etc.

I also want a companion cube somewhere, but I have plenty of clay from art camp, so I can sculpt that and have it fired myself. 😉

Anyway, we’ll see how it turns out. I’ll post progress pictures for y’all as it comes along.

Have a great afternoon!

BEDA Day 21: I am in Possession of a Catholic Dog (Also, Why Packing and Selling One’s House is Obnoxious) (PLUS: NEW GOALS!)

I say this because this morning I dropped down on my knees to say my morning prayers and Lena (the aforementioned Catholic dog) plopped down next to me so it looked like she was kneeling, too. For some reason when I kneel down to pray, she sits right down. It’s funny.

That’s Lena. She wouldn’t move while I was trying to make the bed, so she got made into it. This is pretty standard behavior for her.

Anyway, this can’t be a long blog post because my mom left the house this morning with a list of chores the length of my leg – I forgot how much I hate selling a house. Like, moving is fine. I don’t have problems with moving. I have problems with boxing up everything and making the house look as uncluttered as possible and keeping everything SPOTLESS on the off chance that somebody will call to come see the house. You’re on pins and needles, waiting for a phone call, and when that phone call finally comes, it’s a frantic rush to put everything you’ve been using away and make the house look clean again.

I remember, before we moved here and we had to sell our house, my friend Sam and I were playing Barbies and then my mom told us we had to clean up because people were coming to see the house, so Sam and I shoved all the Barbies under the bed because we didn’t have time (or didn’t want) to put them away correctly. Good times. 😛

Also, I promised a goal update, and here it is. I was looking at this website, DoodleAlley, and it inspired me to get back on track with writing and cello and my art, so my goals are as follows:

1. Get back into Camp NaNo. It’s possible to finish, or at least get close. 45,000 is where I’m aiming.

2. Master ‘Midnight Waltz’ by the end of September.

If I could play like this, I think I could be happy until the end of time.

3. Restrict computer use to evenings unless needed for school/writing/blogging/etc. (This is difficult because even if I do only open the computer for school, writing, blogging, whatever, I always end up getting sidetracked. I may fail this one.)

4. PRAYYYYYYY. My prayer life stinks. I’m gonna fix that.

That’s all for me today! I have four rooms to clean and breakfast to make and a shower to take. Have a great day!

BEDA Day 14: In Which We All Cut Hero a Break (Doesn’t that just sound lovely?)

I know I promised art camp but I’m giving y’all a crappy resolutions update instead for multiple reasons:

1) I have to milk every topic because it’s BEDA and I neeeeeed stuff to write about.

2) Because my resolutions are taking a downward turn and I’m trying to let you guys now before it goes too far, rather than pleading forgiveness after the fact.

So I’m moving. Not out of town, just into a new house IN THE FUN NEIGHBORHOOD! YAY! (Go check the glossary if you’re confused.) Anyway, because I’m moving, I spend most of my time cleaning and packing and trying not to die, which means I have no time for writing, cello, algebra, or working out. I’m not officially pulling myself out of Camp NaNo yet — I’m going to at least try to get back in the swing of things, but no promises.

I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated on the moving process. I’m excited about decorating my new room – I was originally going to do the whole thing steampunk, but now it’s going to be a steampunk/vintage/anglophile/things that Hero likes room. It’s going to be cool. I want to paint the walls gold and write quotes everywhere… If you have any quote suggestions, please please please leave them in comments. So far I’ve got a few quotes that I’m going to print out and frame on a mantle I’m hoping to put up. They are:

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone. ~Audrey Hepburn

Be faithful in the small things, for it is in them that strength lies. ~Blessed Mother Theresa

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do. ~Helen Keller

Okay. I’m gonna go to bed now, try to catch up on some sleep and stuff because I have never been so exhausted in my entire life. Yeah.

(Also, completely freaking out about the new Taylor Swift album coming out RIGHT NEAR MY BIRTHDAY! YESSSS! Here, have some videos.)

I know it’s a little poppier than Taylor’s stuff usually is, but I like that she’s playing with her sound – I am more than confident that this album will be just as amazing as her old ones and that she’s not going to forget who she is or where she came from. That’s just not her. I can’t wait.
